Grand Re-Opening for Greenville Vet Center
October 31, 2008

An Open House and Ribbon Cutting will be held at the Greenville Vet Center located at 1021 W.H. Smith Blvd., Suite 100 on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., to celebrate the opening of a new 3,500 sq ft. facility.  The expanded Vet Center offers more space for group, family and individual readjustment counseling.  The new location moves it closer to the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic and other services within the Medical District.  Elected officials, VA leadership, Veterans Service Organizations, clients, staff, and volunteers will participate.  The pubic is invited to attend.

"We are excited to open this new state-of-the-art Readjustment Counseling Service Vet Center for the benefit of our veteran clients," said Dr. Harold McMillion, Team Leader.  "Our Vet Center was opened in 1985 with 2,385 sq ft., which served our purposes until our client load grew to the extent we needed more space."  The Vet Center serves twenty-eight counties in Eastern North Carolina including several military bases.  Since its inception, the Vet Center has provided over 130,000 visits.  The Vet Center staff members are all veterans; six out of seven with combat tours in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  The staff members work very closely with the VA Medical Center in support of those who served in the Global War on Terrorism.

The Readjustment Counseling Service has five Vet Centers in North Carolina, with locations in Greenville, Raleigh, Greensboro, Charlotte and Fayetteville.

Vet Centers guide veterans’ re-entry into civilian life by providing readjustment counseling, information about the VA system, and direction toward veteran's benefits and existing VA medical facilities.  Vet Centers provide these services in an attempt to facilitate a more positive adjustment to civilian life.  Readjustment counseling services (individual, group, and significant other) are available for any eligible veteran.

Vet Centers serve veterans and their families by providing a continuum of quality care for veterans, families, and communities.  Services include, but are not limited to, professional readjustment counseling, community education, outreach to special populations, and brokering of services with community agencies.  Vet Centers also serve as a link for the veteran to other services in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
