Miguel Harding LaPuz, M.D., M.B.A., was appointed Director at the Salem VAMC effective April 24, 2010.
Dr. LaPuz began his VA career in 1995 as a Staff Physician at the VA Medical Center Huntington, West Virginia. He subsequently transferred to the VA Medical Center Dayton and served as Staff Physician until his appointment as Chief, Medical Service in October 2000. On March 20, 2005, he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the Chalmers P. Wylie VAACC in Columbus, Ohio. On March 29, 2009 he was appointed Chief of Staff at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Dr. LaPuz graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1982 with an M.D. degree. He completed residency and fellowship positions at Brooklyn Hospital Center and at the Long Island College Hospital, both in Brooklyn, New York, and at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky. He completed his M.B.A. at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio in 2000.
Dr. LaPuz has excelled in academic medicine, research and healthcare administration. He is also board certified in Internal Medicine.
